Well technically, Liz does not live here in the Silicon Valley but I still consider her as from here since I met her here. I met Liz at the BNI group I was visiting and we immediately connected. She was in the process of moving to NC when I joined but we decided to meet for a coffee anyway – There is something about Liz and her warm, inviting personality which puts you at ease instantly and makes you want to know her more! Once we started talking we could not break away…
This lady has not only survived but thrived after suffering head trauma in an accident at 18 and living with short-term memory loss. She did not let that define her, instead she set out to find a way that would accommodate the fact that she couldn’t remember anything. She ended up working with kids with Autism and realized that the tools used to work with these kids were exactly what she needed for herself -Visual schedules, prompts everywhere, methods that she could repeat and use with all sorts of goals. She spent 20 years in the field of Autism successfully helping families manage their pain. She taught them the magic of following the data and using that information to make really good choices for what they wanted next.
Life wasn’t done yet, when her own kid was diagnosed with Autism, it felt like a little too much Autism. She never wanted to leave behaviorism, but she did want to leave Autism. And that is when she found the next life-saving set of behavioral tools: Functional Emotional Fitness, a program created by Dr. Kelly Burris of the Burris Institute. Using this program, she was able to be a better mom, her kid was able to connect with his emotions, and they were a much more functional family unit.
“My work led me to be able to help my son which led me to discovering alternative practices which led me to being the best version of myself in all elements of my life…. And I’m so happy with that!” ~ Liz Kahn
Today she helps out families facing Autism if they need her, but her focus now is more on helping any individual find their best selves through behavioral strategies.
“You are your best resource. Learn how to tap into that and you will do amazing things! ” ~ Liz Kahn
I love her confidence, energy and warm inviting personality. If you walk into a roomful of strangers with Liz in it, you wont be a stranger by the time you leave.
We set aside a day to create these portraits for her during her last visit to California and I saw her light up in front of the camera. Idea was to create images she can use as headshots and her business branding on her website and we ended up having so much fun! I not only got a chance to spend time with someone who is now a very dear friend, but I also got the opportunity to create these images for her which capture her very unique personality. What more could a photographer ask for?
