Well technically, Liz does not live here in the Silicon Valley but I still consider her as from here since I met her here. I met Liz at the BNI group I was visiting and we immediately connected. She was in the process of moving to NC when I joined but we decided to meet for a coffee anyway – There is something about Liz and her warm, inviting personality which puts you at ease instantly and makes you want to know her more! Once we started talking we could not break away…

This lady has not only survived but thrived after suffering head trauma in an accident at 18 and living with short-term memory loss. She did not let that define her, instead she set out to find a way that would accommodate the fact that she couldn’t remember anything. She ended up working with kids with Autism and realized that the tools used to work with these kids were exactly what she needed for herself -Visual schedules, prompts everywhere, methods that she could repeat and use with all sorts of goals. She spent 20 years in the field of Autism successfully helping families manage their pain. She taught them the magic of following the data and using that information to make really good choices for what they wanted next.

Life wasn’t done yet, when her own kid was diagnosed with Autism, it felt like a little too much Autism. She never wanted to leave behaviorism, but she did want to leave Autism. And that is when she found the next life-saving set of behavioral tools: Functional Emotional Fitness, a program created by Dr. Kelly Burris of the Burris Institute. Using this program, she was able to be a better mom, her kid was able to connect with his emotions, and they were a much more functional family unit.

“My work led me to be able to help my son which led me to discovering alternative practices which led me to being the best version of myself in all elements of my life…. And I’m so happy with that!” ~ Liz Kahn

Today she helps out families facing Autism if they need her, but her focus now is more on helping any individual find their best selves through behavioral strategies.

I love her confidence, energy and warm inviting personality. If you walk into a roomful of strangers with Liz in it, you wont be a stranger by the time you leave.

We set aside a day to create these portraits for her during her last visit to California and I saw her light up in front of the camera. Idea was to create images she can use as headshots and her business branding on her website and we ended up having so much fun! I not only got a chance to spend time with someone who is now a very dear friend, but I also got the opportunity to create these images for her which capture her very unique personality. What more could a photographer ask for?

Natasha and I connected a few months back and she said to me, “Abhi, this is something I have been planning to do for a long time and never really was able to find the time, but now I am ready.”

If you know Natasha, she has the softest voice and gentlest demeanour. She is a doctor by trade (though she can totally be a model) and usually never wears makeup. She said to me, “I would love to have portraits done but I don’t know how to pose in front of the camera,” and I said, don’t worry Natasha, that’s my job. I am glad she took me up on the offer as she literally blossomed in front of my camera.

This is how she came in the door. Isn’t she beautiful?

I love her attitude of gratitude. In a world when most of us are counting things which we do not posses. Natasha says, “There is so much to be Thankful for in my life. My parents will always be the wind beneath my wings and today it’s my hope that I have made them proud. My partner in wine, food, raising kids and Game of Thrones! My confidante and best buddy, Sandeep my better half for the past 13 years and counting. My pillar of strength who has stood by me through thick and thin. I love him with all my heart. I am so lucky to have two adorable munchkins .The amount of time, patience, energy needed to raise them just unbelievable but so worth it. Last but not the least my brother and in-laws who have always been so very supportive.”

She derives her strength from accepting her mistakes, amending them and moving forward. How many of us are open to doing that?

Her Philosophy in life is, “Live and Let Live. Help others, truly listen to people, be empathetic and make the person in front of you feel better. “

It was only natural that I photograph her with flowers.

Thank You, Natasha for letting me photograph you, your beauty and your essence! It has been a privledge to work with you, know you and hear your thoughts on making the world a better place one person at a time!

I loved creating these portraits with you, for you!

“You are not a drop in the Ocean, You are the entire Ocean in a drop.”  ~Rumi

I met Doreen through a mutual friend and I am truly grateful to Liz who introduced us. With a heart of pure gold Doreen has a penchant for going out of her way to help other small business owners.

Growing up in a poor family, she learned early on that one has to work hard in life. Combine that with traditional (strict) Hindu upbringing where girls do not enjoy much freedom, she wanted to break all the glass ceilings of tradition and culture, she went against everything that was comfortable.

“The American Dream isn’t just getting a great job but making something of yourself.” ~Doreen

“I broke the “blue collar” job stereotype that immigrants get labeled with and created a massage company. I didn’t do it alone. I had the help from my then business partner, and kid’s father, Robert Vignoli. I found that true success isn’t just helping people get out of pain but also to lift others up and to help support others in my community.

Don’t let your past define you! All this is possible when you can define true happiness.”  ~Doreen

“I’m a domestic violence survivor but it doesn’t define me. I know what makes me happy; my family, my business, and my support team. My kids were born in 2010 & 2011 and they are my driving force. I want to offer them the voids of my childhood along with the freedom of having a carefree spirit.”

She owns and manages TherapiaLLC .  She is on the board of Police Activities League which helps thousands of kids in the San Jose region through their sports programs. She supports many other organizations such as Silicon Valley Cares, NFL Alumni Association, Silicon Valley Pet Project, Next Door Domestic Violence Center.

Photographing women is my passion and sharing their stories is slowly becoming my life’s purpose. In my line of work I come across women who are holding the fort for themselves and their families. Strong pillars of support in their community.

Anyone who knows Kimberly knows how passionate she is about helping teens and parents struggling with the adolescent journey, which at times, bewilders us. She is tenacious and does not fear taking risks; and perhaps, that is an invitation for others to take their personal Leap of Faith. Her burning desire is to equip teens with tools and processes to eliminate their limiting beliefs early when they are developing their sense of identity. She enjoys empowering them with new perspectives, which allows them to acknowledge their unique gifts and creativity. There is an artistic quality to all this with balancing respect, wisdom, choice, boundaries, and awareness.

“I attribute my self-confidence to conquering challenges throughout my life. Much like physical strength training, where muscles are slightly torn to trigger the repair process to build stronger muscles, dealing with hurdles—even failures—leads to resilience in the cognitive realm as well. As a side note, “failure” and “success” are just judgments.”

_web_2017KimbyAbhishikhaa4

“My greatest gifts are inspiring others through compassion and respect of my own struggles. I allow myself space, alone time, or time out in nature to ignite my creativity and to acknowledge my intuitive awareness. This combination often inspires me to action and to more joyfully engage in the action steps.”

“Value ‘You’ more than any judgment from another person. Be kind to yourself. Allow yourself time to be in nature, for exercise, and tea. Be confident, be authentic, be courageous, and every morning ask, “What Glorious Adventure will I have Today?” Every evening, reflect upon at least three things for which you feel gratitude, and on those days when this may be difficult, gratitude for the sun shining or a butterfly is okay, too.”

_web_2017KimberlybyAbhishikhaa1

“Don’t feel afraid or weak to request support. Many of us wait too long before requesting guidance. We can avoid unnecessary pain by asking for support, instead of thinking that we can muster through it. Yes, we can get through it, but allowing more ease by seeking support is an act of kindness to ourselves; it also gives others the opportunity to be grateful for being of help to someone else!”
