This thought has been with me for a while now – I am a woman and a mom. My portraits focus on the moms in the family more than anything. I want every woman in this world who is hiding from the camera to come forward and own amazing portraits of herself! So when I am surrounded by these amazing everyday women why not share their stories. When a woman says I am mom, she is really saying, she is the chauffeur/scheduler/cleaner/chef/manager/accountant/HR/VP and CEO of her family. These are not easy hats to wear and anyone who has been in her shoes knows that!
So here is my celebration of #WomenInTheValley – The everyday women who you see in your neighborhood and are “so much MORE.”
Kathryn, has a Bachelors in Math and an MBA in Finance. She has spent time in the banking and trust industry as well as in the high tech industry as a financial analyst. She is a wife to a wonderful husband and mom of three teenage kids. She is a problem solver and finds her work with Profit Trackers (as a bookkeeping specialist preparing financial reports, sales tax and payroll tax returns for her bookkeeping clients) fulfilling.
In her own words, “Education has always been important to me, but in particular a cause close to my heart is the education of children with special needs. I have spent a lot of time volunteering with the local school district advocating for children of special needs and helping other parents understand the strength they have as a parent. No one can ever be a better advocate for a child than his/her own parents. Having a child with special needs, I learned early on in her education that when you dedicate yourself to your role as parent advocate, you find the strength to speak up and deal with difficult situations. That strength comes from the love you have for your child”.
One thing that she will share with other women : “Expectations of women to have a career and raise a family have grown in the last 30 years, but for me it was not a matter of choosing one over the other, but in doing whatever worked best for me and my family at each stage in our lives. I want to share that it’s ok to ignore pressures to be everything to everyone and put yourself and your family first.”
She is Beautiful and Strong.
